In 1990, when I first took this portrait of my muse and model, Suzanne, in a chair draped in white fabric, I felt her wistful expression looked quite vulnerable.
Moments later, I asked Suzanne to show her feminine power, and she certainly did!
It was this image that was published on the cover of Photography magazine, and caught the eye of curators and creative directors and accelerated my career in photography.

Sleeping Beauty
As a child, I was always fascinated by the Sleeping Beauty myth. The idea of being trapped in a deep slumber found a permanent place in my imagination.
I photographed Cheryl when she was nine months pregnant, and thought she looked like a true goddess. I made her crown out of white moss from Norway.
A year later I photographed Cheryl holding her new son. His open and relaxed hand looks like a fingerprint.
